Thanks for stopping by! PERMACULTURE is hard to sum up in a single sentence. (But we keep trying!) In a nutshell, permaculture is a nature-based approach to designing human environments.

If you’re here to learn a bit more about permaculture, read on! Our Resources page gives a “Quick-Start Guide to Permaculture,” plus community links and other stuff you might find useful.

If you’re here to find out about our Permaculture Design Certificate Course, you can get information HERE (or click COURSES in the topbar). Our Winter/Spring 2012 course, which starts January 28, is now full, but you can get on the waiting list if you like. For the first time ever, we’re holding our course at the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems in east Austin. We’re very excited about having our class at this five-star sustainable-design center.

Design that goes against nature is all around us: in our homes, in our workplaces, in our communities. It’s costing us, and it’s costing the planet. Permaculture gives EVERYDAY PEOPLE a toolkit for designing with nature.

Permaculture was founded in the late 1970s by two Australians, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. It’s now a worldwide movement. The Austin Permaculture Guild is an informal association of permaculture design course graduates and others who are dedicated to learning, practicing, and sharing permaculture.
